ABOUT
This project aims to reconstruct historical film culture in Tel Aviv-Jaffa, focusing on the decades between the 1950s and the 1970s. It methodologically applies a triangulation of perspectives, drawing on archival and press research, an analysis of film programming by sample year and venue, and in-depth oral history interviews with contemporary viewers. It comprises two interconnected case studies of cinemas that specialized, for a period of their history, in Middle Eastern films: a first-run cinema and a neighborhood cinema.
