Cultura de la Pantalla en Torreón (1895-1992)
ABOUT
This project focuses upon the history of film exhibition, programming and cinemagoing experiences in Torreón, Coahuila, México. Located in the north of the country, it is one of the youngest cities in México. Methodologically it is a replica of the Enlightened City project, applying a triangulation of methods around a cartography of cinemas in Torreón (cf. database on venues, people and exhibition companies); an analysis of film programming (1922 to 1992, sample year per decade); and oral history on audience’s remembrance of film consumption habits in Torreón (1942-1992; interviews of 20 people 60 years old and up).
FUNDING
The project has not received any external funding. Faculty members, graduate students of the communication program at Universidad Autónoma de Coahuila, México, have worked in the project on a voluntary basis.
